Instruction and Professional Development

The role of the Instruction and Professional Development (IPD) Committee is to empower the members of the Montgomery County Education Association as leaders through professional development  by:

  • Fostering equity and diversity
  • Promoting best practices
  • Increasing member awareness of contractual policies and their implications
  • Providing resources to support teaching and learning
  • Increasing leadership capacity, knowledge, and skills of the members

The IPD Committee will collaborate with MCPS, Center for Teacher Leadership and other stakeholders as necessary in order to design and implement professional development for all members.

MCEA's Instruction and Professional Development (IPD) Committee is sponsoring a new, full day workshop on PLCs entitled "Professional Learning Communities: Build Them, Lead Them, Own Them". The workshop provides an opportunity for MCEA members to deepen their understanding of the concept of Professional Learning Communities, to experience the benefits of the PLC from the teacher’s point of view, and to learn about what goes into the creation of meaningful, educator-led PLC’s.  

This workshop is free and Union Business Professional leave is available. All participants will receive a certificate of completion with clock hours that are good towards recertification of your APC. We are offering the workshop three times: on October 9th, March 16th, and April 3rd. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
