Who We Are
The Community Engagement subcommittee works is to grow MCEA’s relationship with both our established community partners (i.e., CASA, Progressive Maryland, Progressive Montgomery, CUAH, and many others) and working to build our capacity with new and untapped resources. Members plans and participates in activities across the larger Montgomery County Community and also keep our allies abreast of MCEA activities. In their function, this subcommittee ensures the larger committee informed of the happenings. Our interest is to identify opportunities where we can work side by side to improve educational experiences and opportunities for all children in Montgomery County.
The aim of this subcommittee is to move beyond transactional relationships with the community organizations and the Montgomery County community. As educators, we are a powerful group existing in every part of the Montgomery County community and we want to take that power and bust out of our silos to join with other stakeholders working for the cause of public education and a better Montgomery.
What We’ve Done
We have worked with our community partners CASA, CUAH, and Progressive MD. MCEA has partnered with over 13 other community organizations and individuals to create an education-focused action group focused on ensuring that in Montgomery County kids come first. The work of this action group, NO GAP Montgomery County, is focused on working to ensure that ALL learners have access and equity (education and racial) in Montgomery County with a focus on informing community school initiatives in our county.
During the upcoming year, be on the lookout as the Community Engagement subcommittee will participate and sponsoring various activities (i.e., community conversations, food drive, Read Across America, Teacher’s Appreciation, Townhalls, and various need-based drives) throughout our community. Come out and join us for our first few events.
