Latechia Mitchell is currently a science teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown, Maryland. In the journey of following her passion for teaching and learning, she joined Montgomery County Public Schools in 2009. Latechia has worked at Montgomery Knolls ES, S. Christa McAuliffe ES, and Stedwick ES.
Latechia is a member of the MCEA Board of Directors, has represented multiple schools as a building rep, participated in the MSDE SPARKS program, served as a co-chair of the Operations and Contract Administration Labor Management Committee, participated in the past two Contract Bargaining Teams, and serving as a delegate to the Maryland State Education Association and National Education Association representative assembly multiple years in her fifteen years with MCPS. Latechia became involved in the union because as a former charter schoolteacher, she saw how teachers without a union lacked support when supervisors didn’t comply with established guidelines.
