Senator Cheryl Kagan (D)


State senator since 2015 and committee vice‑chair. Kagan has represented District 17 since 2015 and serves as vice‑chair of the Education, Energy & Environment Committee. 

  • Member of key joint committees. She sits on the Joint Committee on Federal Relations and the Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee. 
  • Chairs 9‑1‑1 modernization commission. Kagan leads the Commission to Advance Next‑Generation 9‑1‑1 across Maryland. 
  • Co‑sponsor of SB1058 requiring anti‑hate education. She co‑sponsored the Educate to Stop the Hate Act mandating anti‑hate and Holocaust curriculum standards. 
  • Co‑sponsor of SB0378 family literacy pilot program. She supported the bill establishing a program for incarcerated parents to record children’s books. 
  • Former delegate and civic leader. A former House delegate (1995‑2003), Kagan is active in numerous community boards and advocacy initiatives.
