Senator Will Smith (D) 


State senator since 2016 and Judicial Proceedings chair. Smith has represented District 20 since 2016 and chairs the Judicial Proceedings Committee. 

  • Member of executive and rules committees. He serves on the Executive Nominations Committee, the Joint Committee on Administrative, Executive & Legislative Review, the Legislative Policy Committee and the Rules Committee. 
  • Leader in veterans and civil rights caucuses. Smith chaired the Maryland Veterans Caucus and is a member of the Legislative Black and Latino Caucuses. 
  • Co‑sponsor of SB1058 on anti‑hate education. He supported the Educate to Stop the Hate Act requiring anti‑hate and Holocaust curriculum standards. 
  • Former delegate and federal policy adviser. Smith previously served in the House (2015‑16) and worked on federal policy issues and task forces on wrongful convictions and juvenile justice. 
  • Advocates for civil rights, criminal justice reform and equitable education funding. His agenda includes police accountability, veterans’ services and implementing the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
